Fused sight glasses made of metal consist of a glass window mounted in a metal ring that uses the different thermal expansion coefficients to build a compressive stress which increases durability. When heated, the glass melts and fuses with the metal, creating a closely bonded composite which is much safer than traditional sight glasses.
