Infrared Early Fire Detection Systems for the Recycling Sector
Where paper, waste, and fuels are stored in closed bunkers and open spaces, reliable equipment for fire detection and fire-fighting is required. Self-ignition of the stored materials or contamination by hot materials can result in fires, which constitute a high risk for both operators and the environment. One effective preventative measure is an early fire detection system on the basis of an infrared camera incl. evaluation of the thermal images using a software.

Fire Risk and Fire Protection solution of Recycling Systems
- Risk: Shredder, conveyors and filtration systems pose a high fire risk due to high-calorific materials, mechanical penetration, rapid material conveyance, external impurities such as lithium batteries, and unpredictable fire characteristics, necessitating comprehensive material flow monitoring.
- Solution: Flames, smouldering particles, and hot spots are detected using high-performance detectors from 100°C, with quick area-wide extinction and two alarm levels. Manual activation; spark detection in accordance with VdS 2106 and FM; object and discharge extinguishing; IR camera detection behind shredder; multiple monitoring areas in the material stream are recommended due to unpredictable lithium battery fire behaviour.

Detection Of Critical Ignition Sources
- The Hot-Particle-Detector FST-lt detects moderately hot (almost warm) foreign bodies in production areas starting at 100°C.
Classic areas of application: Pulp manufacturing or recycling industry. - The Glowing-Particle-Detector FST detects particles and embers at temperatures around 250 °C. It is commonly used at the outlet of processing machines such as pellet presses and shredders.
- The Spark-Detector FSK detects sparks at temperatures above 700 °C. It is commonly used in pneumatic transport systems to protect filters or silos.
