FDC Reverse Acting Rupture Discs
These FDC Reverse Types rupture discs are also known as Compression Loaded, Reverse Buckling or Reverse Acting bursting discs.
Reverse Buckling Bursting Discs
A compression loaded or reverse buckling rupture disc is installed into a system where the normal operating pressure is on the convex side of the formed crown. Reverse buckling discs are available in scored, sheared, or knife types. The dome reverses at the set pressure and then either opens along the scored grooves which part or the dome is cut or sheared in other designs.
It is essential to select the correct reverse buckling disc design for the duty. For example, a cross-scored design would be suitable for gas service and liquids in some cases, while a circular-scored design would be suitable for either gas or liquid or dual-phase service conditions.

Reverse Bulking Rupture Disc Tolerance and Installation
Reverse buckling discs from FDC can be supplied with very tight manufacturing ranges and tolerances. They can be operated to 90% of their rated burst pressure for ratings greater than 40 PSIG or to 90% of the minimum burst pressure for ratings below 40 PSIG. Full Vaccum resistance is available without the need of vacuum support, depending on the burst pressure.
Reverse buckling discs need to be installed in their correctly designed holder/safety head. These holders are either insert or Pre-Torque designs and are inserted within the bolt circle of companion flanges. FDC also makes a patented reverse buckling disc design that inserts within the flanges without the need for a holder.
