IEP-Brilex Type KE Explosion Vent Variations

The IEP Brilex KE flat rectangular explosion vent is a single-section design with folded edges, crossed rib, and integrated pressure spike control and sealing gaskets. In many explosion cases, this very accurate explosion vent has been proven in the field. Its fast dynamic response makes this vent superior to flat triple-section designs.

Design Variations

  • Type KE-W Explosion Vent: This explosion vent is unique as it maintains all the features of the type KE and is rolled / curved to suit the diameter of the vessel. It is also available with insulation and elongated holes. Vacuum resistance is -200 mm WC while still maintaining its curved structure.
  • Type KE-Z Explosion Vent: An explosion vent for difficult applications with slits deeper in the flange area, the KE-Z is ideal for cyclone or harmonic type of applications or similar.

The KE Type Vent is certified for Kst values up to 650 bar.m/sec and 100% venting efficiency. Glass wool Insulation from 40mm to 100mm is available without effect on the venting efficiency. Rolling or curving either the short side or the long side is possible. This makes the type KE, curved to suit the diameter of the vessel. It is therefore ideal in food-grade applications to prevent product accumulation.

Typical applications include explosion venting of spray driers, cyclones, dust collectors, and silos. When the vessel is inside the production facility, explosion venting using the type KE is possible when combined with a short vent duct so that the explosion is vented to a safe area, outside.  In the event that this is not possible, then either flameless vents or explosion suppression systems may need to be considered.

The high performance of this explosion vent is attributed to the combination of all the design features mentioned but in particular, the laser cutting is smooth and fine and this enables a highly accurate explosion vent with a +/-10% burst tolerance when the certified burst pressure is at 0.1 bar or above.

The slits sit under the flanged area and are protected, away from the process. The pressure spike control gasket acts as a spring between the top of the slits and underneath the cover flange.

The folded edges ensure that the vent cannot be over-torqued and that in event of an overpressure of the explosion, the vent will pull out from underneath the flanges. The vent is highly suitable for food-grade applications in that there are no crevices for product accumulation and only the side of the gasket is exposed to the process.

A smooth metal surface is then presented to the process. The vent is stiffened with a cross rib. All these features make this explosion vent superior and reliable in performance compared to other explosion vents.
